How to authenticate Dior

About Dior Authentication

Christian Dior uses a date code system rather than unique per-bag serial numbers. The same code appears on all bags of the same model in the same production run, encoding factory location and production month-year. This is important context: a code alone cannot uniquely identify a bag, and high-quality fakes reproduce valid codes from genuine pieces.

Authentication focuses on hardware casting precision, cannage quilting geometry, and stitching density — elements harder to replicate at scale than printed codes. The most counterfeited models are the Lady Dior, the Saddle bag, and the Book Tote.

Key authentication signals

• CD hardware casting. The "CD" lettering on clasps and charms is precision-cast, not stamped. Inner angles of both letters are sharp, not rounded. On superfakes the inner right-angle corners of "C" and "D" show slight rounding from lower-quality casting processes.
• Cannage quilting geometry. The diamond-grid pattern on the Lady Dior references traditional atelier chairs. Authentic quilting keeps each diamond intersection point at the geometric center of each diamond across the full panel. On fakes the intersections drift progressively toward panel edges.
• Interior "Christian Dior" tag font. The heat-applied serif stamp shows slight leather compression around each letterform. "Christian" is set smaller than "Dior" on most models. Bleed or fuzzy edges on the stamp impression indicate incorrect heat or pressure during application.
• Zipper quality. Lady Dior and Saddle bag zippers use custom Riri pullers (not YKK) with the Dior logo. The slider runs without catch. Fakes use YKK sliders with a stamped "Dior" overlay — visible as a secondary impression under magnification.
• Handle bead wrapping. Lady Dior handles use individually leather-wrapped beads with no gaps at the wrap start and end points. Visible gaps or overlapping at wrap terminations indicate fake construction.

Date codes and serial markers

Two-letter factory code plus four digits in interleaved MMYY format: digits 1 and 3 give the production month, digits 2 and 4 give the year. Code "MA-0959" means factory MA, May production, year 1999. Common factory codes: BO, MA, RU, SO, ET. The date code is heat-stamped on a leather tab inside the main compartment or, for mini Saddle bags, inside the back pocket. Lady Dior bags predating the late 1990s may have no date code — their absence is not a fake indicator for vintage pieces.

Common counterfeit red flags

• Cannage diamonds are rectangular or rhombus-shaped rather than square.
• Interior lining color wrong for the claimed model season.
• Hardware font shows serif characters; authentic Dior hardware font is sans-serif.
• Dust bag tissue shows "DIOR" in incorrect font weight or on thin paper.
