Golden Goose Deluxe Brand (GGDB) was founded in Venice in 2000 and produces all sneakers by hand in Italy. The brand's defining characteristic is intentional distressing — scuffs, worn toe caps, and deliberately aged leather applied by hand by skilled artisans. This means an authentic Golden Goose looks imperfect by design, while a fake may ironically appear too pristine or have distressing that is too regular and mechanical.

The Superstar, the Ball Star, and the Slide are the most counterfeited models. The star applique geometry and the quality of handmade distressing are the primary authentication signals.

Key authentication signals

• Star applique stitching and edge finish. The leather star on the lateral side is stitched fully around all five points — every edge of the star is secured to the upper with no lifting, gaps, or loose threads. The star is slightly raised from the upper surface. On fakes the star edges partially detach or are glued rather than stitched, and the star may lie completely flat against the upper.
• Distressing authenticity. Golden Goose's hand-applied distressing produces natural-looking irregularity: scuff marks vary in depth and direction, worn areas correspond to logical use points (toe cap, heel counter). Counterfeit distressing is either absent (shoe looks too new) or mechanically uniform with a repeating pattern — the opposite of the artisan variation present on authentic pairs.
• Insole text quality. The insole is stamped with the full brand name "GOLDEN GOOSE" in bold sans-serif, along with the style name, a registered trademark symbol, size, and "MADE IN ITALY." The text is clean, consistently bold, and centered. On fakes the "GOLDEN GOOSE" inscription is thinner and lighter than on authentic pairs, and the overall stamp impression is shallower.
• Tongue tag printing. The tongue tag includes a QR code, style number, size, and country of manufacture. All text is precise and the QR code is scannable. Blurry or condensed text on the tongue tag, or a QR code that does not resolve to a valid destination, are fake indicators.
• Italian manufacture mark. Authentic GGDB sneakers are 100% made in Italy. The insole and tongue tag both reference Italian manufacture. Any pair carrying a non-Italian origin is a counterfeit.
• Box quality and branded dust bag. Authentic Golden Goose shoes come in a sturdy box with clear, sharp logo printing and are accompanied by a branded dust bag. Thin cardboard, faded logo printing, or no dust bag are packaging red flags.

Serial and reference numbers

A style-specific serial or reference code appears on the tongue tag and inside the shoe. The code identifies the model variant and production batch but is not individually unique per pair. Counterfeit codes may appear plausible in format but often contain font inconsistencies visible under close examination. The QR code on the tongue tag provides a more reliable cross-reference point than the printed number alone.

Common counterfeit red flags

• Star edges are partially unstitched, lifting, or flat against the upper rather than raised and fully stitched.
• Distressing pattern is mechanically uniform or completely absent on a model that should show hand-applied wear.
• Insole text is thinner and lighter in weight than expected for the "GOLDEN GOOSE" brand stamp.
• Tongue tag text is blurry, condensed, or the QR code fails to resolve.
