Veja was founded in Paris in 2004 by Sebastien Kopp and Francois-Ghislain Morillion with a mandate of transparency in supply chain and sustainable sourcing. Every pair of Veja sneakers is manufactured in Porto Alegre in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. The brand's outsoles use a proprietary blend containing Amazonian wild rubber harvested directly from seringueiro communities in the Amazon rainforest — a material specification that counterfeiters cannot replicate with commodity rubber. The V-10, Campo, and Esplar are the most counterfeited models.

Authentication centres on the "V" logo geometry, the wild rubber outsole composition, the made-in-Brazil label, and the organic material certifications on the box.

Key authentication signals

• The "V" logo geometry. The VEJA "V" is a large, clean chevron logo applied to the lateral side panel of most models. On authentic pairs the "V" is made from leather or leather-alternative material stitched cleanly onto the upper, with consistent width along both arms of the chevron and a precise acute angle at the base. On V-10 models the "V" is a stitched overlay panel. On counterfeits the logo is screen-printed directly onto the upper fabric rather than applied as a stitched panel, or the stitched version shows uneven arm widths or a blunted base angle.
• Wild rubber outsole texture. The outsole of authentic Veja shoes contains Amazonian wild rubber, which gives the sole a slightly matte, almost slightly waxy surface texture distinct from the shiny surface of standard synthetic rubber. The rubber composition on the V-10 sole is approximately 40% Amazonian rubber, 23% mineral silica, 10% recycled rubber, and 11% synthetic rubber. This blend produces a sole that flexes easily and grips consistently. Counterfeit soles use a standard injection-moulded synthetic rubber that appears glossier and is noticeably harder when flexed.
• Made in Brazil interior label. Every authentic Veja sneaker carries a stitched interior label reading "Made in Brazil." This label is stitched on all four sides and includes the VEJA wordmark, model name, size, and material composition. On counterfeits the label may read "Made in China," may be glued rather than stitched, or may carry a VEJA wordmark in an incorrect typeface.
• Organic cotton lining. The interior lining of most Veja models is made from organic cotton or a cotton blend, giving it a slightly textured, breathable feel distinct from the smooth synthetic tricot lining used on counterfeits. The lining colour is typically off-white or natural, matching the material's unbleached specification.
• Box and environmental documentation. Authentic Veja boxes are printed with the brand's sustainability messaging, certifications such as GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) where applicable, and a QR code linking to Veja's transparency portal. On counterfeit boxes the certification marks are absent or non-specific, and any QR code leads to a generic retailer page rather than Veja's transparency documentation.

Serial and reference numbers

Veja uses an alphanumeric style code that appears on the inner label and the box. For the V-10 the code format begins VX followed by seven digits — for example VX0702901 for the V-10 CWL White Black. Cross-referencing this code on veja-store.com or the brand's official retail platform confirms the exact colourway and upper material specification.

Common counterfeit red flags

• "V" logo is screen-printed rather than a stitched overlay panel, or stitched panel shows uneven arm widths.
• Outsole appears glossy and hard — lacking the matte texture of wild rubber — and does not flex as easily as an authentic sole.
• Interior label reads "Made in China" or is glued rather than stitched on all four sides.
• Box carries no sustainability certifications or GOTS marking, or QR code does not resolve to Veja's official transparency portal.
