About Marshall Audio Authentication

Marshall Audio (formerly Marshall Headphones) is the consumer audio arm of the Marshall brand, distinct from Marshall Amplification. The two companies share the Marshall name and visual DNA — including the gold script logo and black vinyl aesthetic — but are legally separate entities. Consumer audio products include the Major V, Mid ANC, Monitor II ANC on-ear headphones, and the Stanmore III, Acton III, and Woburn III home speakers. Key authentication signals

• QR code destination domain. As of 2026, genuine Marshall products include a QR code on the product packaging that, when scanned, directs exclusively to authenticity.marshall.com. Counterfeit packaging may include a visually identical QR code that redirects to a third-party domain or a non-functional URL. Before scanning, verify the QR code destination in your scanner app's preview — do not proceed if the domain is not authenticity.marshall.com.
• Packaging cardboard weight and print quality. Genuine Marshall product boxes use thick, rigid cardboard with a deep matte black surface. The gold logo print uses a metallic foil or high-density gold ink that reflects light directionally — rotating the box under a light source shows a sheen shift. Counterfeit boxes use thinner cardboard that flexes when squeezed at the corners, and the gold print is flat without directional reflection. Text on genuine boxes is sharp with no pixel bleeding at the edges of the Marshall wordmark even under 5× magnification.
• Vinyl leatherette texture on headphones. Marshall Major and Monitor headphones use a high-quality vinyl leatherette covering on the headband and earcup outer shell. The texture has a soft, slightly grainy character that is distinct from the headphone's inner foam — running a fingernail across it produces no audible squeak. Counterfeit units use smooth, shinier plastic that produces a squeaking sound under fingernail pressure and has a faint chemical (solvent) odor particularly when new.
• Gold control knob (joystick) on Major series. The Major V and earlier Major versions feature a gold-finished multidirectional joystick as the primary control. On genuine units, the knob moves with smooth, deliberate resistance and produces a crisp, defined click in each of its four cardinal positions and when pressed. Counterfeit joysticks feel loose or rattling in the neutral position and produce an imprecise, variable-depth click — sometimes clicking too lightly, sometimes sticking.
• Ear cushion foam recovery. Genuine Marshall on-ear cushions use slow-recovery memory foam — pressing the cushion fully flat and releasing causes it to return to its original shape over approximately 2–4 seconds. Counterfeit cushions use standard open-cell foam that springs back in under 0.5 seconds, or conversely uses rigid foam that barely compresses under finger pressure.
• Marshall Bluetooth app pairing. Genuine Marshall wireless headphones (Major V, Mid ANC, Monitor II ANC) connect to the Marshall Bluetooth app on iOS and Android, which exposes EQ controls, source switching, and firmware information. Counterfeit units pair with a "Marshall"-named Bluetooth device but do not connect to the official app or connect without model-specific controls. The app handshake requires proprietary firmware that counterfeiters cannot replicate.

Serial and reference numbers

Marshall serial numbers appear on the product box sticker, inside the headband of over-ear models (visible when the cushion is partially lifted), and on the warranty card included in the box. All three must carry the identical serial. The serial is also accessible in the Marshall Bluetooth app under Settings > About on connected wireless models. The presence of a warranty card with a serial number is necessary but not sufficient — counterfeit warranty cards with generic serials are documented.

Common counterfeit red flags

• QR code on packaging redirects to a domain other than authenticity.marshall.com.
• Gold logo print on box is flat without directional light reflection or metallic sheen shift.
• Headband or earcup vinyl produces squeaking under fingernail pressure or carries a chemical odor.
• Gold joystick feels loose or rattling in neutral position, or click is imprecise.
• Ear cushion foam springs back in under 0.5 seconds rather than slow memory-foam recovery.
• Marshall Bluetooth app does not recognize the device or connects without model-specific EQ controls.
